The Team
After leaving King James’s Grammar School in Almondbury, Andrew began his accountancy career with Whinney Murray and qualified as an Associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales in 1980. A brief spell in the Johannesburg audit department of Ernst & Young was followed by 2 years in industry with Delta Cables and as Management Accountant with Rand Mines at Duvha Opencast Services.
After returning to this country Andrew worked for a number of firms, gaining experience of smaller businesses and taxation, before forming his own accountancy practice which became part of Appleton Dale in 1994.
Andrew is in charge of training and is the Money Laundering Reporting Officer, and has recently been admitted to Fellowship of the ICAEW.
Outside work his interests are classical music, reading and supporting Sandal RUFC, where he is a vice-president.
Penny Cliffe
Director
A graduate of Liverpool University, Penny qualified as a chartered accountant in 1977 at the Leeds office of a national firm of accountants. She was seconded to their Paris and Johannesburg offices carrying out mainly audit work, before taking a career break to have her 3 children. Since returning to accountancy Penny has acted for of all size of clients from sole traders to limited companies providing accountancy and taxation services. Clients have always found her very approachable and she likes to ensure that clients fully understand any tax and accountancy issues which concern them. Penny played netball regularly for many years. She now enjoys visits to the gym and walking at weekends
Brendan Sykes
Senior accounts clerk
Having completed his A Levels at Greenhead College, Brendan qualified as an accounting technician in August 2011. He is now studying towards his ACA, in order to become a fully qualified chartered accountant.
Brendan plays football for Huddersfield Y.M.C.A in the West Riding County Amateur League and also completed the Berlin marathon in September 2011, he hopes to run more marathons in the future and visit many cities in doing so!
Ceri Grover
Senior accounts clerk
Ceri has been working with the firm since October 2010 after qualifying as an Accounting Technician in 2008. She is currently studying towards her ACCA qualification which she intends to complete by 2014.
Ceri is currently on maternity leave until summer 2012
Emily Smith
Apprentice accounting technician
Emily joined our firm in September of 2011 after completing her A-Levels at Shelley College. Emily is currently studying towards her AAT Qualification, she hopes to continue her studies to achieve her career goal of becoming a fully qualified chartered accountant.
Emily enjoys socialising with her friends and is a member of Total Fitness gym. She enjoys travelling and seeing different parts of the world and is hoping to do a parachute jump in the summer of 2012.
